Don’t Worry Your Pet Is In Safe Hands At Presqu’ile Animal Hospital.
Our experienced team can perform a wide range of surgeries, including spay and neuter, soft tissue surgeries, and amputations.
Our patient’s comfort and safety is of utmost importance. Prior to any surgical procedure, we will schedule a pre-surgical consult to make sure our patient is in good health, run pre-anesthetic bloodwork, discuss the procedure and answer any questions, and send home our patient care package. The patient care package is designed to make sure the day of surgery goes as smoothly and stress-free as possible for your pet. It includes oral medications for you to give prior to coming to the hospital to minimize anxiety, nausea (that can sometimes be associated with fasting and anesthetic), and pre-emptive pain control (studies have shown that getting pain medication on-board prior to a surgery provides better comfort after the procedure). We will contact you prior to the day of the surgery to confirm drop off procedures, what to expect, and our recommendations for fasting and administration of any chronic medications.
Each patient will have a custom-designed anesthetic protocol to best suit their needs. We take into careful consideration pre-existing health issues, including arthritis, and put steps in place for comfort. We provide extensive monitoring by our trained staff of all essential parameters before, during, and after the surgical period, including heart rate, respiration, body temperature, ECG, blood pressure, and capnography .
Surgery that doesn’t involve the bones or joints is called soft tissue surgery, and we can perform a wide range of these surgeries. This includes spay and neuter, mass removals, laceration repairs, cystotomies (surgery to remove stones from the bladder), removal of foreign objects from the stomach or intestinal tract, surgeries to correct eyelid abnormalities, cesarian sections, and others. More complicated soft tissue surgeries can be referred to a board-certified surgeon if required. We can perform amputations, but any orthopedic surgeries will be referred to an orthopedic surgeon.
Your pet’s experience doesn’t end the day of surgery. The post-operative period is just as important. We will make sure your pet is sent home with the appropriate pain control, and if needed a surgical shirt or cone. We will follow up with you in the days following the procedure to make sure your pet is doing well, is comfortable, with normal eating and bathroom habits.
Follow-up surgical rechecks are provided free of charge if there are any concerns.
