Wellness & Prevention

Check-Ups

An annual wellness exam allows us to establish a solid veterinarian-client-patient relationship, which is required to provide the best care for your pet.  We want to get to know you, and your pets! We will discuss any questions or concerns you have regarding your pet’s health, such as changes in behaviour, activity level, or eating habits.

Your pet will receive a “full systems check” to make sure there are no issues with the eyes, ears, teeth and mouth, lymph nodes, heart and lungs, abdomen, skin and coat, joints and mobility.

Annual Vaccines

We will discuss, and make sure your pet is up-to-date, with the vaccine protocol that is best suited to them.  We will go over prevention options for fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal parasites.

New puppies and kittens should come for a wellness exam within 3 days of purchase to make sure no significant issues are present that may require on-going care or intervention, and then get their initial vaccine series at 8, 12, and 16 weeks of age.  Senior pets require additional care and will benefit from more frequent check-ups, generally every 6 months, so we can catch and address issues before they become detrimental.

Microchipping Your Pet

Microchipping is a great option to allow your pet to find its way back to you should they ever become lost, and is recommended for every pet.

Diagnostics and Testing

Pet owners are encouraged to bring a fecal sample to the wellness appointment, and if necessary additional diagnostics such as blood work and urinalysis will utilized to better assess your pet’s health.
